King Abdullah Sports City

ACTLD was commissioned to illuminate the inauguration ceremony of the King Abdullah Sports City Stadium in Jeddah, in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia on May 1st. Because of its iconic architectural character and festive importance, this challenging project gathered the best international talents to organize and produce the live event attended by the King Abdullah, royal family, along with almost 85.000 people and tens of thousands of TV spectators.

The inauguration ceremony was divided in four acts, including the interval for the 2014 Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques Football Cup and the huge closing ceremony with fireworks. The architecture of the KASC stadium, nicknamed “Jewel”, was our major inspiration and was included in our general lighting scenography with the same importance as the live performances and show taking place in its interior. This creative approach towards architecture and event allowed us to provide an outstanding memorable result for this distinguished sports venue.
